Fourth Grade
Instructor: Mrs. Tracy
Welcome to Mrs. Tracy's fourth grade class for the 2011-2012 school year!  Our class presently consists of 23 students, 13 girls and 10 boys.  I am so excited to be a part of your learning experience this year.  Fourth grade is fun-filled and fast-paced.  Science experiments, trips, music lessons, special art classes and Career Day are just a few of the wonderful things that will make it fly by. So get ready to set sail and hold on to your hats!  It will be over in the blink of an eye and it is a quick and crazy ride!
Class Announcements
Spelling Sentence Guidelines
1. All work must be done in the blue spelling notebook given to you by Mrs. Tracy.
2. Students are to choose 10 of their 20 words from the current list and write a sentence using each word.
3. Sentences are due every Thursday.  You have all week to complete them.  You can do them all at once or a couple a night if you are short on time.
4. Sentences should be fourth grade quality sentences!  By this I mean:
 - They should be of adequate length (more than 6 words)
 - They should all start with a different word (no "The  dog ..., The best time..., The only person...)
 - No short "I" sentences ( "I like ice cream.")
 - Try to use vivid verbs, higher level vocabualry and lots of adjectives
 - Use proper capitalization, punctuation and spelling
 - The spelling word being used must be spelled correctly and underlined
 -
Neatness counts!

Grading:
All work completed and well done will earn a star.
Work that is completed, but not well done will earn a check.
Work that is partially completed or not done will earn a check minus or a zero.
*When you earn three stars, you will have a week off from your spelling sentences.  You will still need to do the workbook pages and study to take the test, but you will not have to complete your spelling notebook for that next week.

Class Syllabus
Grading Policy
Our school's grading scale:
A= 92-100
B= 82-91
C= 70-81
D= 65-69
F= 64 or below

Homework will count as 20% of the final grade in all main subject areas: Reading, Lang. Arts, Math & Spelling.  Tests, quizzes and projects will be weighted according to how many of each we have completed at a marking periods end.  If a student misses a homework assignment, they will be given a 0.  They are still required to make up the assignment and will then be given 1/2 credit for it.  The exception to this is if they were absent.

Policy for assignments missed due  to absence

Students who miss more than one day should have someone call the school before noon of the 2nd day so that their assignments can be gathered from all their teachers.  Parents will then need to come to the front office of the school to pick up the assignments.  Please only call if you are truly planning on picking up the work.  It is very beneficial to a child who is out several days so as not to get too far behind.  If a child is only missing one day, they may get their assignments the next day when they are in school.

Class Rules
1. Follow directions the first time.
2. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
3. Raise your hand if you have something to say.
4. Always try your best.
5. Come to class prepared with all pencils, books and homework.
6. Treat others as your wish to be treated.

Behavior Policy
See school-wide behavior policy in student handbook

Spelling Lists
Please note that current spelling lists are listed under class files.  Students will bring home a list of the words cut from their spelling workbooks.  Also, guidelines for spelling sentences are at the top of the announcements page.
